theyogaspace offers yoga classes in Whangarei, New Zealand.
Corrine has been teaching yoga at theyogaspace for 10 years. Corrine's yoga teaching practice is based on precision and alignment of the body. At first, alignment is approximate and then it gradually becomes more precise as understanding increases. In the classes props are used ie: bolsters, blankets, belts and chairs. If you had thought the idea of practicing yoga, impossible, because of your lack of flexibility the props will fully support you, so that even the most inflexible person can begin to learn. The amount of time and effort depends on the individual. Most students attend at least one theyogaspace class each week. Over time you may decide to attend more classes or start your own home practice.

Asanas are the postures or poses that you will learn. Collectively asanas correct posture, improve breathing and increase energy. Individually, asanas have a distinctive effect. Standing postures create vitality, sitting postures are calming, twisting poses cleanse, inversions (upside down poses) develop mental strength, balancing postures bring a feeling of lightness, backbends are exhilarating. At a physical level the asanas tone and strengthen all the systems within the body ie. musculature, circulatory, digestive, hormonal and respiratory.

The mind learns to listen, concentrate and focus so that eventually awareness is diffused equally throughout the body. The repetition and practice of asanas brings understanding and knowledge. You are learning the science of yoga. From this learning comes the reward of patience and discipline. Then will come the gracefulness, the art of yoga. Your practice becomes more effortless. From this effortlessness the flow of energy is felt. You will start to feel yourself functioning to your highest potential far beyond anything you have experienced before.
